The Chicks are Here!
Aren't they sweet? Just peep-peepin' away... learning how to eat and drink... takin' a little snooze here and there. Rowen LOVES them, and Charlotte was pretty entertained as well. They've been home just over an hour... more to come! (photos & stories, that is. not more chicks. four's it!)
Four chickies! Two barred rocks, two orpingtons. Though one looks a little different than the other, I may have grabbed a new hampshire instead. Hoping for pairs, though!

They are soo cute! I love how Rowen is taking care of them- he is quite adorable!
Oh cute, I am so jealous! ;)
Now are these for egg laying or meat?
dual purpose :) We should get good eggs for a couple years, and then they don't lay as much so we'll "trade 'em in" for new chicks! (Lord willing, and if everything goes well!)
Oh my goodness, this is so awesome!! How many eggs will an average chicken lay/day or week?
we should be able to expect 3-5 per girl per week. So just under a couple dozen/week if we're lucky :)
Brianne,
I'm so happy I stumbled upon your blog! (I go to Athey and know of your family through the Carters.) My husband and I have been trying to get better with buying more organic/local foods (and starting a garden this spring!). Anyways...you have some great information for everything here :)
I walk past the Organics to You building after work, and I had always wanted to look it up - it looks awesome!
